Message from the Chair

Welcome Message

It is our great privilege and pleasure to announce that the 8th ISSX Asia Pacific and 42nd JSSX Joint Meeting (JSSX/ISSX 2027) will be held over four days from Monday, November 15 to Thursday, November 18, 2027, at Omiya Sonic City in Saitama, Japan. Together with my fellow Co-Chairs, Professor Andrew Rowland of Flinders University and Professor Emeritus Hiroshi Yamazaki of Showa Pharmaceutical University, I would like to extend our warmest greetings and welcome to you all.

This Joint Meeting will serve as an excellent opportunity for researchers from across the Asia-Pacific region and around the world to gather in one place, engage in lively discussions across boundaries, and pioneer new research directions and collaborative initiatives. As the value of in-person scientific interaction is once again being recognized, exchanging multifaceted knowledge with domestic and international researchers from diverse backgrounds will not only provide all participants with new perspectives but also serve as an invaluable catalyst for building a robust global network.

The theme of the meeting is "The DMPK Nexus: Integrating Diverse Minds and Insights." Traditionally, Drug Metabolism and Pharmacokinetics (DMPK) has encompassed a wide range of scientific fields—from the elucidation of transport and metabolic mechanisms at the molecular and genetic levels and the analysis of in vivo disposition, to the quantitative prediction of efficacy and safety using mathematical models, translational research, the optimization of pharmacotherapy, and regulatory science—and has made significant contributions to drug discovery and development and the appropriate use of pharmaceuticals. However, in recent years, with the emergence of new modalities and the integration of data science, drug discovery and development and healthcare have undergone a major paradigm shift, giving rise to complex challenges that are difficult to resolve using conventional approaches alone. To overcome these challenges, it is essential that this Joint Meeting function as a "Nexus" where diverse fields of expertise intersect, bringing together "Diverse Minds" from academia, industry, and regulatory authorities—as well as across generations and national borders—to share and integrate unique perspectives and "Insights." Therefore, we have prepared a rich and comprehensive program that includes not only a wide range of symposia designed to promote such dialogue and the integration of knowledge, but also special sessions organized jointly with ISSX to broaden our global perspective. We are confident that this meeting will inspire participants with new ideas to address current challenges and serve as a springboard for future-shaping innovation.

Omiya, the host city, is located about 30 minutes by Shinkansen from Tokyo Station. While it serves as a major transportation hub (Nexus) connecting numerous railway lines, it is also a charming city where tradition and urban functionality harmonize—featuring the serene forest of Musashi-Ichinomiya Hikawa Shrine, which boasts a history of over 2,000 years, and the world-renowned Omiya Bonsai Village. We hope you will enjoy the charms of Omiya and Saitama alongside the scientific discussions.

We very much look forward to welcoming you to Omiya in late autumn 2027.

Sincerely,

On behalf of the Meeting Co-Chairs, JSSX/ISSX 2027
